Wheatgrass and watercress are both extremely high in antioxidants which may help prevent chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer and heart disease. Additionally, research demonstrates that the isothiocyanates and sulforaphane found in watercress could suppress the growth of breast cancer cells and likely inhibit cancer development by preventing carcinogen activation, thereby stopping a potential carcinogen becoming a carcinogen.
University of Ulster scientists also found that eating watercress daily can significantly reduce DNA damage to blood cells, which is considered to be a significant trigger in the development of cancer.
Many health experts have highlighted that the chlorophyll molecule in wheatgrass is almost identical to the haemoglobin molecule found in human blood.
The only difference is that the main element in chlorophyll is magnesium and in haemoglobin is iron. Due to its similarity, the human body can easily transform chlorophyll into haemoglobin, increasing the red blood cell count as well as the blood’s capacity to deliver oxygen and other nutrients to the body’s cells. This along with exercise can help kill cancer cells.

Growing wheatgrass and watercress is incredibly easy and much cheaper than buying it from a supermarket or health food store. Check your local gardening store for some organic seeds and some coconut fibre to grow the seeds in. You then just need a tray like an old oven tray or even an unused casserole dish. You don’t even need soil and you can even grow them inside on your countertop. Just keep them covered in water and they will continue to grow.
